Geisel lisbdnet.com”s Digital Media Lab (DML) is open to all UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students, providing a space for media creation and editing. It is located in the Geisel East Commons, on the 2nd floor. Specific capabilities include free 3D printing, video editing (e.g., Final Cut, iMovie, Camtasia), image manipulation (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects), sound editing (e.g., Adobe Audition, Garageband), media-rich website creation (e.g., Dreamweaver, Flash, Filezilla), and basic productivity (e.g., MS Office, web browsers, Adobe Acrobat Pro). The DML is now offering support for app development, with Unity, Android Studio, and Steam enabled on all Windows workstations.

3D printers, VR headsets, and workstations can be reserved for 3 hours per day through the lisbdnet.com”s room reservation system. 3D printer users should plan to show up 10 minutes early to consult with staff to maximize their print times.

Equipment & Software

The DML three Prusa i3 MK3 3D printers, two HTC Vive VR Headsets, two Oculus Rift Headsets, two Wacom Cintiq tablets, along with 5k iMacs and VR ready Windows PCs. Select 5K iMacs are equipped with high-end scanners that allow scanning 35mm negatives and slides. All equipment is free and open to all UC San Diego affiliates, all 3D printing supplies are provided.

In support of the University”s mission of teaching and research, the Digital Media Lab (DML) provides computing and multimedia resources to the University community. Access to the DML is a privilege conditioned upon compliance with the current Acceptable Use Policies.
